Welcome to the 26th ACM Symposium on Virtual Reality Software and Technology (VRST 2020) for exchanging knowledge and experience. It is our pleasure to virtually host VRST 2020 from Ottawa, Canada, for the safety of attendees, due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
As a premier international forum for advanced in virtual reality technology, VRST 2020 received 132 paper submissions from all continents. Its program committee (PC) consisted of 27 esteemed researchers to coordinate additional 176 expert reviewers. Each submission underwent at least three reviews for its novelty, technical quality, and impact to the field. The final program of VRST 2020 was thus composed of 28 full papers and 7 short papers, yielding an overall acceptance rate of 26%. The topics of these papers ranged from simulation & graphics, 3D reconstruction & computer vision, haptics, navigation & locomotion, collaborations, avatars, and display & visual perception, to applications. In addition, a total of 59 posters and demos were submitted, and 43 of these were accepted to the technical program.
Moreover, the program was honoured by two distinguished keynote speakers: Doug Bowman from Virginia Tech University (USA) and Mary Whitton of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA). As two of the foremost names in the field of virtual reality, they presented stimulating insights to energize the program and provide invaluable insights to new and seasoned researchers alike.
Special thanks are extended to the PC members and expert reviewers for all their dedicated efforts and thoughtful reviews. Their hard work uniquely empowered the program to be interesting.
We hope that attendees will find VRST 2020 inspiring, as it spotlights the latest research in the growing field of Virtual Reality. The event aims to foster collaboration and instigate further growth in this exciting field.
