Speech Recognition Versus Typing: A Mixed-Methods Evaluation Misc

Johanna Kneifel, Ohoud Alharbi, Wolfgang Stuerzlinger

Abstract:

Mobile text entry has become a main mode of communication. To make text entry as efficient as possible, helpful features, such as autocorrect and speech recognition have been developed. In our study, we confirmed previous work in that speech recognition was faster, while the error rate for typing was lower. To analyze this in more depth, we performed semi-structured interviews about participants’ text-entry preferences, specific pain points that occur, and potential suggestions for improving the editing experience.
